Beyond chinese season 2

Beyond Chinese is a conversation series with Vancouver-based artists and people of Chinese ancestry, challenging the assumption that Asian appearance equals Asian nationality. They are invited to share personal stories of migration, identity, and cultural pride or distance. From reclaiming heritage to resisting labels, each guest reveals a unique way of living “beyond” fixed definitions of being Chinese, showing identity as fluid, complex, and deeply personal.

In collaboration with TELUS Storyhive, this project is expanding into a second season, focused on intergenerational dialogue, and how the concept of “Chinese” might be perceived differently between diaspora family members.

We are looking for members of the community who identify as of Chinese ancestry, who would be willing to be interviewed and filmed as part of the project. This application form is open to Vancouver residents; welcome to sign up for yourself or with a family member.

The Society of We Are Canadians Too created Pancouver to foster greater appreciation for underrepresented artistic communities. A rising tide of understanding lifts all of us.

We would like to acknowledge that we are gathered on the traditional and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish Nation), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation). With this acknowledgement, we thank the Indigenous peoples who still live on and care for this land.
