Nearly three years after the demise of Kim’s Convenience, CBC will launch a new tween series focusing on a Korean Canadian. Gangnam Project stars Julia Kim Caldwell as Hannah Shin, who dreams of becoming a K-pop star.
Gangnam Project begins on CBC Gem on March 8.
According to the CBC website, Hannah “flies to South Korea to work at an elite K-pop training school and ends up getting much more than she bargained for”. Her job is tutoring a top student, Chan-Mi (Brianna Kim), who’s not always a willing student. In order to gain her trust, Hannah shows off her talent, which ends up impressing the school’s owner. That leads her to become a K-pop student.
Recording artist August Rigo wrote an original soundtrack for Gangnam Project. His writing credits include “Black Swan” and “On” for BTS, “U Smile” for Justin Bieber, and “Gotta Be You” for One direction.
