An orchestra founded by a renowned Taiwanese composer in 2017 will perform two concerts in Burnaby. Harpist Lee Che-Yi, a 40-time nominee for Golden Melody Awards, leads the OneSong Orchestra as its music director. Its first concert is at 2:30 p.m. on April 21 at the James Cowan Theatre in the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts (6450 Deer Lake Avenue). The orchestra’s second concert will be on the same date at 8 p.m.
Over the course of his career, Lee has composed nearly 2,000 works and produced about 110 albums. He has won Golden Melody Awards for Best Composer and Best Creation. Lee also won Best Annual Dance Music Album at the Hong Kong Dance Awards in 2015.

The orchestra’s philosophy is “more local, more global”, which is reflected in the choice of music on its Sound from Formosa 2024 U.S. and Canada tour. Taiwanese classics such as “Grasshopper Playing Tricks on a Rooster” and “The Moon Represents My Heart” will be performed along popular western songs such as “We Are the World” and “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree”.
In addition to Burnaby and an earlier date in Seattle, OneSong Orchestra will also perform in Houston (April 23), Boston (April 25), and New York (April 27).
