This week, northern islands in the Philippines were battered by Typhoon Krathon. According to news reports, the storm also known as Super Typhoon Julian brought peak sustained winds of 195 kilometres per hour. It killed at least five people, injured either others, and left three people missing. The typhoon also clobbered Taiwan.
On Saturday (October 5), local musicians with roots in the Philippines will perform at a fundraiser in Surrey to help those who’ve been uprooted. Pinoy Band Aid: Bayanihan para sa Kababayan Benefit Concert will take place at Chandos Pattison Auditorium (10238 168 Street) from 5 to 10 p.m.
Tickets are $25 and proceeds will go to ABS-CBN Foundation International for flood relief. Miss Petite Canada 2022 pageant winner R.K. Canlas and dental clinic manager Yuan Leonor will co-host the event.

Pinoy Band Aid will present a long list of performers, including the alternative funk and grunge band D’Angkols. It’s comprised of four musical veterans: lead vocalist Francis Gabo, lead guitarist Dodge Buena, bass player Jonas Navarro, and drummer Owen Aguirre.
In addition, the rock-pop group Center Lane, Plug and Play duo, a four-piece rock band called The Ouch, traditional folk-rockers Chordillera, Harana Chorale, and Jan Zeta & Dave Dagia will be at the benefit. Moreover, Pinoy Band Aid will also showcase rising younger singers Alessandra Abia and Tatianna.
According to the Pinoy Festival, which is promoting the event, “Tatianna draws inspiration from a variety of musical icons such as Lea Salonga and Sara Bareilles, admiring their haunting vocals and artistry.”

Update
After the event, organizers announced that Pinoy Band Aid raised $16,100.
