A new, monthlong event will brighten up the seawall between Canada Place and Cardero Park. Liven UP – Coal Harbour will present more than 150 musicians from December 1 to 31, as well as speakers, fire performers, walking tours, and lighting installations.
It kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday (December 1) with interdisciplinary artist, educator, and ethnobotanist T’uy’t’tanat Cease Wyss telling stories at the Komagata Maru Memorial at Harbour Green Park.
Meanwhile, Ember Arts Fire Society will perform that evening at 6, 7, and 8 p.m. at Canada Place Plaza. In addition, Alaisdair Butcher will deliver a talk and lead a walking tour, starting at the Komagata Maru Memorial, at 6:30 p.m. Wyss will then offer a welcome to the entire event at 6:55 p.m. at Harbour Green Stage, which will feature performances later that evening by Shawn Bullshields and Leo D.E. Johnson.

Over at Cardero Park, Liven UP – Coal Harbour will present Winter Serenade: Opera and Holiday Classics at 6:30 and 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
The fire performers and live opera will continue on every Friday and Saturday night at the same locations throughout December. Butcher will speak and lead tours every Friday in December, starting at the Komagata Maru Memorial. However, there will be new storytellers at that location every Saturday night, with visual and media artist Henry Tsang scheduled to speak at 5:30 and 6:45 p.m. on December 2. Tsang’s recent book, White Riot: The 1907 Anti-Asian Riots in Vancouver, was published by Arsenal Pulp Press.
