Toronto alt-pop artist Aiko Tomi has made an entire music video devoted to blueberries. She sings about eating them. In the video, she also stuffs her face with this antioxidant-, vitamin-, and fibre-rich fruit. And in an entertaining twist, Tomi scurries around the produce section, eluding Strawberry (Mia Sumida) and Orange (Li Xu), who are in fervent pursuit.
After racing out of the store, Tomi ends up in a park, where she pelts her adversaries with blueberries.
All of this led fellow musician Alex See to declare that “Aiko is our blueberry overlord”. See’s comment came in response to one of Tomi’s blueberry-infused posts on her Instagram feed.
Tomi says that her joyous new single, “blueberries”, is really about celebrating simplicity.
“It’s a meditation on embracing the richness and meaning in life’s small, unpretentious moments, rather than chasing external validation,” the self-described weirdo pop alien declares in a news release. “The song exudes confidence, celebrating the power of being true to yourself while staying grounded in a world obsessed with appearances.”

Tomi’s lyrics for “blueberries” include trenchant observations about life—a trademark of her songwriting.
“They got rich and famous / They got worry on their faces,” she sings. “I just stay the same / Haven’t aged a day in ages.”
Tomi’s upcoming album, Everything Sparks Joy, includes “blueberries” and eight other songs. She plans on releasing it on June 20.
The zany official video for “blueberries” (above) was directed by Teen Gohan and produced by Jay Motley. Bradley Shemmell handled cinematography and the editing.
