B.C. cultural arts strategist Nina Buddhdev has cooked up an aural surprise for Mother’s Day. Buddhdev, founder of the Bandish Network, has curated an intimate evening of poetic verse and uplifting music featuring three performers, including her talented tabla- and sarod-playing son. The Indus Sings will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday (May 10) at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam.
Vancouver-based vocalist, composer, and songwriter Vasundhara RoGan will be joined on-stage by versatile flamenco guitarist Ehab Guitarrista and Hriday Buddhdev. In 2023, CBC named Buddhdev as one of the 30 hottest Canadian classical musicians under 30.
According to the Evergreen Cultural Centre website, The Indus Sings “brings the timeless beauty of Shayari, Ghazals, Persian verses, and Sufi melodies to life—a moving tribute to the heart and spirit of motherhood”.
“Let the evocative vocals, timeless instrumentation, and live narration guide you through a heartfelt journey of love, devotion, and remembrance,” it adds.
Audience members are invited to wear something to the event that reminds them of a mother’s love.

Soul-stirring connections
RoGan is a Vancouver-based singer who trained in Hindustani classical music in the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana. In Metro Vancouver, RoGan is known by thousands for her previous work as a radio host on Red FM.
The ITC Sangeet Research Academy states on its website that the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana was “made famous by great composer of bandishes Inayat Hussain Khan and his two sons-in-law Mushtaque Hussain Khan and Nissar Hussain Khan”.
“Vasundhara’s original compositions are atmospheric and soul-stirring—designed not to impress, but to invite,” the Evergreen Cultural Centre website notes. “Her music is less performance, more presence: a shared breath between artist and listener. She sings not just to be heard, but to connect—to create a space where sound becomes story, and stillness becomes song.”
